Collimation Issues for the Pep-ii B-factory

چکیده

This note describes how beam collimation affects detector backgrounds at the collision point for the PEP-II Bfactory, a joint effort of three laboratories: LBNL, LLNL, and SLAC. Beam collimation controls the transverse size as well as the maximum allowed energy spread of the beam. The location of synchrotron radiation masks is determined by the transverse size of the beam in that the masks must prevent radiation generated by beam particles located at large transverse beam positions from directly striking the detector beam pipe. Collimation of the energy spread of the beam is important in the control of backgrounds produced by beam particles that strike a gas molecule (lost beam particles). I describe some preliminary information from background studies during the first months of commissioning the high energy ring of the PEP-II B-factory and present some model predictions for synchrotron radiation backgrounds when collimators are not present.

Second-generation B-factory Proposals and Lessons Learned from B-factory Operation

There are two proposed second-generation B-Factory designs: one from the INFN-Frascati laboratory in Italy and the other from the KEK laboratory in Japan. These proposed accelerators build on the recent successes of the PEP-II B-Factory at SLAC and the KEKB B-Factory at KEK and three other former colliders (DORIS-II at DESY, VEPP-4M at BINP, and CESR at Cornell) all operating at least part time...

Last Year of Pep-ii B-factory Operation*

The PEP-II B-Factory [1] at SLAC (3.1 GeV e + x 9.0 GeV e ) operated from 1999 to 2008, delivering luminosity to the BaBar experiment. The design luminosity was reached after one and a half years of operation. In the end PEP-II surpassed by four times its design luminosity reaching 1.21 x 10 34 cm -2 s -1 . It also set stored beam current records of 2.1 A e and 3.2 A e + . Continuous injection ...

Pep-ii Status and Future Plans*

The PEP-II B-Factory at SLAC has reached a luminosity of 4.6x10/cm/s and has delivered 94 fb of data to the BaBar physics detector by the end of May 2002. PEP-II has delivered over 309 pb in 24 hours and over 6.35 fb in one month. The accelerator physics issues for these performance levels include electron cloud, beam-beam effects, parasitic beam-beam collisions, and RF beam loading. Upgrades t...

Calibration of the Beam-Position Monitor System for the SLAC PEP-II B Factory

The Beam-Position Monitors (BPM) for the PEP-II B Factory consist of four 1.5cm diameter button style pickups mounted on the diagonals of the quadrupole vacuum chambers. Before installation of the vacuum chambers in the quadrupole assemblies, the electrical center of the BPMs is measured with respect to the mechanical center in a calibration test stand. In this paper the calibrations test stand...
